Baby, toddler & child yoga breathing techniques: snake breath

Apr 15

Snake breath is a highly calming breathing technique, principally for use in teaching toddler yoga, which is also incorporated in our Calmer Stories instructor course. It helps children to self-regulate.
So how to go about it?

Sit the children down or, alternatively, get them to lie down. Then ask them to breathe in through the nose with a long and deep inhale.

Next they breathe out through the mouth with a hissing sound, slow and long. With each hissing snake exhale, ask the children to see if they can hiss even slower to make their exhale last even longer.

As you can imagine, (and if you try this yourself you'll see!), this is great for slowing children down, and calming them both mentally and physically.

Thinking you'd like to teach toddler and child yoga or our Calmer Stories instructor course? We've fantastic distance learning courses for both of these that will equip you with all you need to know to run your own toddler and child yoga or Calmer Stories sessions.
