My 10-Year Journey with To Baby and Beyond

Aug 5 / Jess Barnaschone

Those of you who have studied with us will most likely recognise or know Jess from our online and face-to-face courses. She's taught with us for many years, having initially training and qualified with us. It's been ten years since Jess first qualified, and here she is to tell us about her journey to this special milestone!
"Ten years ago, during my maternity leave with my first baby, I made a decision that would significantly influence and shape my career: I trained with To Baby and Beyond (TBaB) to become an infant massage instructor.

"At the time, I was a primary school teacher in the senior leadership team, determined to become a Headteacher. Having my son and training in infant massage, completely changed the projection of my career, as I quickly decided that I wanted to be at home with my child and teach baby massage to local parents.

"As I returned to part-time teaching, I began offering infant massage classes alongside my school work to supplement my income while being flexible around my baby.  When my second baby was born a year later, I made the leap and left teaching altogether. It was both daunting and liberating.

"I began teaching both infant massage and baby yoga, bringing my own babies along to the sessions. I was so fortunate to be able to support other parents while being fully present with my own children in the most baby-friendly workspace imaginable.

"My journey continued to evolve as I became an instructor trainer for TBaB. I began teaching face-to-face courses and assessing long-distance learners, stepping into a mentoring role that allowed me to help others begin their own journeys under the guidance of Julie Cleasby. It was an immense privilege to support new practitioners and witness their passion grow.
"Today, I work for a national early years charity where I regularly teach infant massage to underserved communities, sharing the same nurturing, connection-based practice that first inspired me. Seeing the impact of this work in areas where access to early years support is limited has only deepened my belief in its value.

"Looking back, training with TBaB was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It gave me the tools, confidence, and community to reshape my career into something more aligned with my own values. A decade later, I'm still inspired by the power of touch, connection, and responsive care - and I'm so grateful to be part of a movement that champions those things every day."

Thank you Jess, both for the story behind your journey as an instructor, but also for your enthusiasm and dedication to To Baby and Beyond!
