Baby and toddler yoga breathing techniques: balloon breathing

Mar 28

Balloon breathing is a technique we cover in our baby yoga, toddler yoga and Calmer Stories instructor courses. It's a really lovely way to extend the breath and also focus down into the pelvic floor area.

It's not just wonderful for children but also a great technique for pregnant mums to use during contractions/ surges..
Here's how to approach it:

  • Place your hands, palms down on your tummy.
  • Make sure your fingertips are touching.
  • Take a big breath in (perhaps counting up to 15 or 20) and imagine you are breathing in from a big balloon.
  • Give the balloon a colour.
  • As you breathe out imagine the balloon floating away.
  • Repeat.

You can incorporate balloon breathing into a baby yogatoddler and child yoga or Calmer Stories session.

If you'd like to learn to teach baby yogatoddler and child yoga or Calmer Stories, check out the different options we have for learning.
