Baby and toddler yoga breathing techniques: bee breath

Feb 28

The second of our features on breathing techniques in baby and toddler yoga looks at Bee Breath, also known as Bhramari. You can read about equal breathing in our previous article.

Each of the techniques we are featuring are useful for baby yoga teachers, toddler yoga teachers and Calmer Stories teachers to use in their sessions.
Bhramari pranayama is generally useful for people with depression, anxiety and insomnia. It can also help amazingly well with throat problems.

The literal meaning of Bhramari is 'humming black bee' because it gives a tingling sensation while doing it.

  • Sit cross legged.
  • Close your eyes with your fingers on your ears.
  • Now inhale and exhale forcibly with a humming or buzzing sound.
  • Inhalation and exhalation should be from both nostrils and mouth should be closed.
  • Start slowly and then accelerate.

While performing Bhramari pranayama take care that inhalation and exhalation should be from lungs and abdominal movements should be minimal.

We hope you find this technique useful when teaching your baby yoga, toddler and child yoga or Calmer Stories class. Join us to learn more techniques as well as all you'll need to know to teach your own baby yoga, toddler and child yoga or Calmer Stories classes.
